Many visitors to Bali may be unaware that in many parts of Asia ride-sharing service Uber merged with Grab - this is now the situation in Bali. There is some good news for travellers arriving into Bali Airport where they now have the option of utilizing Grab directly from the Domestic Terminal (only). Simply download the Grab App then take the 3 to 5 minute walk to the Domestic Terminal building. Grab has a dedicated booth coloured green which is easily recognized. The booth serves as a meeting or pick up point for passengers.
Bali Airport Taxi
Only official airport taxis at the airport use a fixed price system which is prominently displayed at the airport taxi counter. Prices are highly inflated and best avoided. However for those who have not made arrangements for a private transfer to their hotel this may be an option worth considering.
By presenting at the taxi counter (located next to the information desk) at the arrivals hall and advising the hotel name and destination, a price will be quoted. If agreed, (the price is non-negotiable) a ticket will be issued. Your driver will then escort you to the vehicle and drive to the destination.
Blue Bird Taxi
A note about bluebird taxi for the uninitiated. There are restrictions placed on Blue Bird Taxi and others from operating at Bali Airport. The rule allows for passengers to be dropped off at the terminal building however drivers are restricted from making pickups from the terminal.
In a number of areas throughout Bali service providers including Grab, Go-Jek and Blue Bird Taxi are forbidden to operate in certain ‘no-go zones.’ These access restrictions are imposed by Community Managers, allowing only ‘private taxis’ to operate within these precincts. Ubud is one example together with particular zones in Seminyak and Canggu.
Consequently taxi services that are able to drop off into these areas are unable to collect passengers for the return journey making the journey unprofitable for the driver. As a result taxi drivers may request a higher price, or decline the journey altogether.
